August 29, 1927 — June 19, 2004

Arlene B. (Stangfield) Heller, age 76, passed away after a lengthy illness on June 19, 2004, at Rolling Meadows Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on August 29, 1927, in Greenville, Wisconsin, the third child of Irma (Magadanz) and Andrew Stangfield. After graduating from Hortonville High School in 1945, she enrolled in the St. Agnes School of Nursing (now Marian College). After completion of her studies, she was employed as a registered nurse and night supervisor at St. Agnes Hospital from 1948 until her retirement in 1994, working the night shift for most of her career. She married Melvin E. Heller of Fond du Lac on June 17, 1950 and together raised a family with four sons. Upon retirement from St. Agnes Hospital, she worked for a brief period as occasional staff for the hospital, served as a volunteer nurse for the Good Samaritan Free Clinic, volunteered for the Red Cross Blood Drive, and continued to cultivate her love of gardening and the outdoors, including participation in the National Audubon Society. She is survived by Melvin, her husband of 54 years; her four sons, Mark A. Heller of Cudahy, WI, Jeffrey S. (Karen) Heller of Naperville, IL, David A. Heller of San Antonio, TX, and James E. Heller of Fond du Lac; two sisters, Mrs. Ione Hardy of Appleton, WI, and Mrs. Helen Baehman of Hortonville, WI, a sister-in-law, Mrs. Joyce Stangfield of Hortonville, WI, and five grandchildren. Her parents, and her brother, Gilbert Stangfield, preceded her in death.
