Bernice West

March 17, 1947 — June 30, 2022

Bernice West was born on March 17, 1947, and departed this earthly life on June 30, 2022. Bernice was born in Midnight, Mississippi, to Bonnie Mae Criss and George Watkins, both preceding her in death. We honor Sam Jones as a bonus father. Bernice grew up in Louise, Mississippi and graduated from Montgomery High School where she played basketball as a hobby #43 purple and gold as her sister Justine excitedly shares. Bernice was a CNA (certified nursing assistant) much of her life with 40 plus years invested in caring for others. Bernice worked at All About Life Rehabilitation Center (Crossroads Care Center) for a number of years and retired from The Fond du Lac Healthcare Center (Harbor Haven Health & Rehabilitation).

Bernice enjoyed fishing, loving on others and a great party. Bernice was often known for desiring to be the best dressed in the room. Bernice was known as the life of the party and loved to dance. Bernice was a friendly and loving individual, very hard working and she loved to cook. Bernice accomplished much in her life so there is no doubt that all of her life experiences and contributions cannot be listed but today we celebrate all that she was in the lives of those she loved and are present to testify to her life’s legacy.

Bernice leaves to cherish her memory her brothers, Robert Criss, Emanuel Criss, and David Lee Criss (deceased). One sister, Justine Whyte (Lonnie M. Whyte) who affectionately remembers Bernice as “Queen B-West”. Bernice is survived by her four children, Robert West (Dorie), Lolita Lirette (Dennis), Albert West, and Miguel West. Bernice has 17 grandchildren in no particular order; Tangela, Shalanta, Lasharetta, Ansheretta, Tanisha, Willie, Antoinette, Cedric, Cordiaral, Otto, Tiara, Joe Joe, Devon, Nathaniel, Dontae, Abigail and Devon. Along with a growing host of Great Grandchildren, Nieces and Nephews. Bernice was also preceded in death by her former husband Robert Lee West. Sr.
