Carmella “Carma” A. Schibline, 94, of Fond du Lac, died Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at SSM Hospice Home of Hope where she was a resident the last 8 days. She was born February 21, 1929 in Fond du Lac, the daughter of Vernon D. Kuen and Margaret E. (Hinkes) Kuen. Carma attended St. Mary’s Grade School and graduated from St. Mary’s Springs Academy, class of 1947. On August 28, 1948 she married John A. Schibline at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fond du Lac.
Carma worked for a short time as a switchboard operator for Bell Telephone Company. She was a lifelong resident of Fond du Lac where she raised and cared for her 6 children. She was a Charter member of Sacred Heart Parish and a very active member of Holy Family Catholic Community, Sacred Heart Perpetual Adoration, Sacred Heart Faith Builders and the Altar and Rosary Society. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother and volunteer at Sacred Heart Grade School. She enjoyed quilting (former member of Heart & Hand Quilters), reading, playing sheepshead, dominos, spending time with family/friends and traveling around the world. She was an excellent cook and baker. She moved to St. Clare Independent Living facility in 2015 and enjoyed the community of residents that shared her passion for life and caring for each other.
She is survived by her six children, Patrick (Mary Beth) Schibline of Pensacola, FL, Micky (Roger) Gajeski of Van Dyne, Larry (Sarah) Schibline of Fond du Lac, Steve (Karen) Schibline of Oshkosh, Tony (Joleen) Schibline of Fond du Lac, and Julie (Steve) Malizia of Gilbert, AZ; 16 grandchildren, Chris (Joel) Heinemann, Nancy (Michael) Mutterer, Andy (Anne) Gajeski, Matt (Kayla Dyer) Gajeski, Brad (Jen Jacobson) Schibline, Brian (Shelley) Schibline, Shawn Schibline, Shannan (Steve) Guell, Samantha (Troy) Hart, Tom Schibline, Trevor (Paige) Schibline, Alyssa (Jesse) Zempel, Isabel Thiel, Joshua Thiel, Justin Malizia, and Zach Malizia; many great and great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Helen Aschenbrenner of Fond du Lac and Mary (Gary) Waite of Fond du Lac; brother, David (Janice) Kuen of Fond du Lac; sister-in-law, Yvonne Kuen of De Pere and brother-in-law, Joseph Schibline of Fond du Lac. She was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years John “Jack”; her parents; grandson, Eric Schibline; great-great-grandson, Rocky; brother, Oliver Kuen; brothers-in-law, Roger Aschenbrenner, Donald Schibline, Edward Schibline, and Michael Schibline; and sisters-in-law, Ethel Stinemates and Doris Bragg.
The visitation will be held Tuesday, February 13, 2024 from 12:00 - 1:30 PM at St. Francis Home Chapel, 31 Everett Street in Fond du Lac. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 PM on Tuesday at the chapel. Private interment will take place the following day at Chapel of the Risen Christ Mausoleum, Calvary Cemetery. Cremation has taken place.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to SSM Hospice Home of Hope in Carma's name.
