Chris Jay Schumacher, 67, of Van Dyne, WI, passed away surrounded by family at his home on Sunday, July 12, 2026, after a determined fight against pancreatic cancer.
Born at home on July 30, 1958, in Van Dyne, Chris was the son of Donald and Gloria (Laude) Schumacher. He married Sharon Kay (Gantner) Schumacher on April 23, 1983, at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church in Oshkosh, WI, and together they shared 43 years of marriage.
Chris graduated in 1976 from Horace Mann High School and began his passion in life, working the family farm, which has been in operation since 1894. Chris filled his time over the years with many activities including serving on the Van Dyne Fire Department, trap shooting at both Van Dyne Sportsmen’s Club and Wescot Sportsman’s Club, bowling, playing sheepshead, and being a caretaker for Zion Ev. Lutheran Cemetery. Chris also enjoyed spending his quiet time doing jigsaw puzzles, sudoku, watching western movies, and sharing tootsie rolls with the grandkids.
Chris is survived by his wife, Sharon; children: Laura (Scott) Suprenand, Jenna (Andy) Karr, Brandon (Lindsy) Schumacher; grandchildren: Anna, Weston, and Trey Suprenand, Jesse Roberts, and Hazel Schumacher; siblings: Jan (Bonnie) Schumacher, Gayle (Michel) Schumacher, Brian (Carla) Schumacher, Scot (Rosann) Schumacher, and Julie (Steve Pfeiffer) Strean; mother-in-law, Margaret Gantner; in-laws: Debbie (Chuck Hunter) Gantner, Mike (Bev) Gantner, Ralph (Kathleen) Gantner, Dale Gantner; and many nieces and nephews, family, and friends.
Chris was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Gloria Schumacher; father-in-law, Donald Gantner; brother-in-law, Greg Strean; sister-in-law, Julie Gantner; and son, Eric Schumacher.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 17, 2026 at St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church, North Fond du Lac, WI.Visitation will be from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM with a service to follow. There will be a private family inurnment at a future date in Zion Ev. Lutheran Cemetery.
