Connie graduated from Milwaukee-Downer Seminary in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She later attended and graduated from Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin. Throughout her life, she was known as a consummate homemaker and a talented designer, gardener, and artist. Connie especially loved entertaining friends and family and had a passion for travel. She was a lifelong sports fan, with enthusiastic devotion to the Green Bay Packers and the Los Angeles Dodgers.
While living in Fond du Lac, Connie was an active member of First Presbyterian Church, the Fond du Lac Family YMCA and she enjoyed playing golf with her friends at South Hills Country Club.
She shared a devoted marriage with her second husband, Sylvan “Ham” Hamberger, who preceded her in death. Ham was widely recognized as an innovator and leader in the global marine industry, including Mercury Marine, Boston Whaler, Yamaha Outboards and Tracker Marine Group. During his career, the couple lived in several communities, including Duxbury, Massachusetts; Irvine, California; and Springfield, Missouri, before retiring in Palm Desert, California.
After moving to Palm Desert, Connie and Ham joined the Palm Desert Community Presbyterian Church and enjoyed attending productions at the McCallum Theater, as well as going to the Indian Wells Art Festival and other signature events. But most of all, they enjoyed all the great restaurants in the Coachella Valley. Connie also resurrected her paint brushes and spent many hours creating art.
Connie was preceded in death by her father, Clayton Van Pelt, her mother, Florence Van Pelt (née Rueping) and her brother, Dirk Van Pelt. She is survived by her three children: Christopher Wilson, M.D., of Denver, Colorado; Wendy Wilson of Kingwood, Texas; and John Wilson (Michelle) of Stamford, Connecticut.
She is also survived by granddaughter Alexis Weightman (Gordon) and their daughters Charlotte and Ainslee, as well as granddaughter Emily Casala (Brandon) and their daughters Winter and Harley, all of Denver, Colorado.
The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, April 17, 2026, at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest at Rienzi Cemetery in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Eisenhower Health Foundation.
