Cynthia L. "Cindy" Mcdermott

October 25, 1952 — November 24, 2021

Cynthia L. “Cindy” McDermott, 69, of Fond du Lac, passed away Wednesday, November 24, 2021, at home with her family by her side. She was born in Stevens Point on October 25, 1952, a daughter of Edwin and Clara (Kurzynski) Wing. Cynthia graduated from Beaver Dam High School in 1970. She met the love of her life, Kevin Charles McDermott and they were married August 26, 1972. He preceded her in death on March 12, 2018. Cynthia was an office manager for many businesses including doctor’s offices, Wausau Insurance, Ready Mixed Concrete/Lycon, and Dr. Conran Eye Care until her retirement in 2020.

Cynthia enjoyed traveling with Kevin, was an avid quilter, and loved Hand appliqué. She also enjoyed knitting and made many hats that were donated to the hospital’s newborn nursery. Cynthia both collected and created many quilts and wall hangings. She acquired her love of sewing and crafting from her grandmother. Cynthia loved gardening, her koi pond, feeding and watching birds, and camping. She collected Noah’s Ark items along with Halloween and Christmas villages. For 28 years, Cindy and Kevin, along with their children and later, grandchildren, setup and held the “Park Ave. Tunnel” on South Park Ave for Halloween. This was something they looked forward to every year as Halloween was Cynthia’s favorite. She was an avid fan of her grandchildren’s baseball and football games and you could always hear her cheering. Cynthia could be found watching Hallmark movies and listening to Christmas music throughout the year. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.

Cynthia leaves behind her mother, Clara Wing; four children, Amanda (Michael) Shady, and children, Meganne (Ben) Runge, Madisanne, Zachary and Alisanne Shady; Steven (Tracy) McDermott and son, Hollis; Bradley (Tamara) McDermott and daughter, Olivia; and Roxanne (Dave) Staehler and children, Caeleb Plante, Camron Staehler, and Dalton Jarvey; her mother-in-law, Betty Thom; four sisters, Jeannie (Ed) Patrick, Debbie (Bill) Schrank, Melodie (Tom) Willihnganz, and Bonnie Kalbus; two brothers, Mark (Nickie) Tarwid and Edwin “Tiger” Wing; a brother-in-law, Tom (Joyce) McDermott; a sister-in-law, Carolyn Thom (MJ); nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She also leaves behind her “Stitch-n-B*tch” family, Suzy, Laura, Sally, Jayne, and Mar; and her special friend, Kathy Geis.

She was preceded in death by her father, Edwin; her husband, Kevin; father and mother-in-law, Royal and Ruth McDermott; father-in-law, Merlin Thom; two sisters-in-law, Joanne McDermott and Kathleen McDermott; a brother-in-law, Royal McDermott; and a nephew, John McDermott.
