Dorothy D. Schroeder

Dorothy D. Schroeder, 88, passed away peacefully at the St. Francis Home in Fond du Lac, WI on Wednesday, June 7, 2023 where she was a resident for over eight years. She was born on June 25, 1934 in Westfield, WI, the youngest child of Otto and Dora Henke. On June 23, 1957, she married Elroy J. Schroeder at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Westfield, WI. She attended and graduated from Bethany Lutheran College, Mankato, MN. Throughout her career as a teacher, she continued her education at Marian College (University) and UW Oshkosh.


Dorothy taught as an elementary teacher, serving at St. Stephen’s Lutheran School in Beaver Dam, WI and at St. Peter’s Lutheran School in Fond du Lac, WI. She was also a supervisor for many student teachers. In her retirement years, she worked as a hostess at Schreiner’s Restaurant in Fond du Lac, WI. Dorothy loved clothes shopping and was always dressed beautifully. She enjoyed traveling with her family and friends and one of her favorite trips was an Alaskan cruise.


Survivors include three daughters, Renee’ (John) Rickert, Fond du Lac, WI, Kim Schroeder (Michael Kluk), Venice, FL, and Lisa (Brennen) Gregorius, West Bend, WI; seven grandchildren, Jeffrey (Katie), Brian (Alyssa), and Jayna Rickert, Alyse, Emme, Kiley, and Connor Gregorius; three great grandchildren, Claire Rickert and Corbin and Camden Rickert; one brother, Martin (Betty) Henke, St. James, MN; one sister, Caroline (John) Duesterhoeft, Westfield, WI; sister-in-law, Verla Bengsch, Westfield, WI; brother-in-law, Vilas (Cheri) Schroeder, Jackson, WI; and sister-in-law, Irene Stamp, Appleton, WI, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elroy J. Schroeder in 2008; her parents; three brothers, Walter, Hilbert, and Gerhardt, “Smokey”; one sister, Gertrude Berndt; several in-laws, and numerous friends and other family members.


The family thanks the line staff at St. Francis Home for the compassionate care they provided to Dorothy during the past eight years. In this journey of dementia, they became a part of our family. The family also thanks SSM Hospice for their loving care to Dorothy and the family, in the walk through the final days of Dorothy’s earthly life.


The family also thanks Pastor Boehringer of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Fond du Lac, WI for his comforting presence and messages during Dorothy’s final earthly days and following her last breath, as well as being a special presence of God’s love.


The journey of dementia impacts many, while slowly grieving your loved one’s ability to remember, speak, and participate in life, but it cannot take away love.


The visitation will be held Saturday, June 10, 2023 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 1600 South Main Street, Fond du Lac, WI. The funeral service will follow Saturday, June 10, 2023 at 11:00 am, St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. Entombment will be at Shrine of Rest Mausoleum, Ledgeview Memorial Park at a future date.


Memorial donations may be given to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.
