Elizabeth “Betty” J. Moore, died Sunday, March 17, 2024, St. Patrick’s Day a fitting tribute to her Irish heritage, at the age of 92 in Fond du Lac, WI. She was born to James W. and Mary Ethel Moore. She grew up in Fond du Lac. After graduating from high school, she attended business college which then led to a position at the local courthouse as her first job. As a young woman she adventurously moved to Milwaukee which was considered unusual for a young woman at that time. She took a job in the patient billing department at Milwaukee County Hospital where she worked until her retirement at the age of 55. We often thought of her as the “Mary Tyler Moore” of her time. After retirement she settled in Menomonee Falls until her move to Fond du Lac shortly before her death.
Betty is remembered as a loving and caring aunt to her nieces and nephews and also to her great nieces and nephews. They fondly remember her as a person to do fun and engaging activities with them. She traveled to Ireland and Italy. She ventured out with the Vagabond Ski Club. Betty also made several trips to Canada to visit relatives. Betty liked animals and dearly loved her cat Cocoa. She enjoyed the theater and invited her nieces and nephews to various performances feeling it was important to introduce them to the fine arts. Betty enjoyed staying in contact with her good friends and was a reliable letter writer using her typewriter. She often stayed in touch by calling, writing or visiting friends and family. Betty was a gracious hostess to friends and family members when they visited and made everyone feel special.
