Elmer M. Cords, 71, of Fond du Lac, died Monday, October 3, 2022, at St. Agnes hospital. He was born September 3, 1951, the son of Alvin and Evelyn (Kraus) Cords in Fond du Lac. He left school in 10th grade to run his father’s gas station when his father became ill. Elmer married Mary Boyke on Oct. 7th, 1978. They had three sons. Elmer worked as an auto mechanic at Big Al’s Texaco, drove truck for Eckerts Sanitation Service and then drove forklift for Larsen Co/ Birds Eye Foods and Menasha packaging before becoming disabled in 2011. Elmer was involved in the Boy Scouts for many years. He enjoyed playing sheepshead, watching football, and taking old junk apart.
Elmer is survived by his wife, Mary; three sons Kevin (Sarah) of Middleton, Jason (Amanda) of FDL and Brad (Ashley) of DeForest; seven grandchildren, Elijah, Emma, Allison, Noah, William, James, and Arlo; nine siblings, Jerry (Michelle), James, Ruth (Mike) McGinnis, Jeannie (Dean) Rentmeester, David, Carol Stephanie, Patricia (Mark) Schiefelbein, Jeffery (Heidi), Mary (Randy) Kuik; two brothers-in-law, Carl (Viola) and James (Ann) Boyke; and many nieces and nephews. Elmer was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Evelyn Cords; father and mother-in-law, Arthur and Esther Boyke; sister, Shirley and John McDermott; and brother-in law, Joseph Stephanie.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 17, 2020, from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM at Salem United Methodist Church, 120 Sheboygan St. Fond du Lac, WI. The funeral service will follow the visitation at church at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Ledgeview Memorial Cemetery.
