Harry Drexel

April 5, 1915 — May 12, 2004

Harry Drexel, 89, of Fond du Lac entered into eternal life after a valiant struggle with cancer on May 12, 2004 at Rolling Meadows Nursing Home in Fond du Lac, where he has been a patient for the past one and a half months. Harry was born April 5, 1915, a son of the late Vernon and Lillian Drexel. On December 4, 1937 he was united in marriage to Eleanor Handke at the Church of Peace, where they were lifetime members. She preceded him in death on May 5, 2004. He and Eleanor resided in Fond du Lac all their married life.As a young man, Harry spent 18 months in the CCC. After being discharged, he worked for a short time at Gerhard's Bakery where he met the love of his life, Eleanor. Harry also worked for many years at the Julka/Mayflower Moving Company in Fond du Lac. After his retirement from Julka, he worked for Prestige-Pak for approximately 20 years. Together, Harry and Eleanor raised three sons, Roy, Ronald, and Wayne Drexel. Shortly after their marriage, they brought Harry's sister Jean who was three years old into their home and raised her as their own.Harry was always willing to help others in need and was a kind hearted, well-respected man. He especially enjoyed the craft of woodworking, ceramics, and painting. He was very much a perfectionist, which showed in everything he created. Most importantly his greatest love was his wife of 67 years and his family. He adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren and was the best father and grandfather anyone could ask for. He enjoyed doing things for other people and did it always with a smile and never a complaint. He will be in our hearts forever. Survivors include two sons; Roy (Kay) Drexel of Wausau, Wayne (Linda) Drexel of Fond du Lac, one brother; William (Betty) Drexel of St. Cloud, two sisters; Faith Mitchell of Van Dyne and Jean (Richard) Gerber of Sheboygan Falls, one sister in law; Ruth Bartelt of Colorado.
