Hazel J. Schmuhl

Hazel J. Schmuhl, 91, of Fond du lac, passed away on July 8, 2026, at the SSM Health Hospice Home of Hope in Fond du Lac. She was born June 19, 1935, in the Town of Alto, a daughter of Fred and Gladys (Czoschke) Uecker. On April 24,1954, she married Donald A. Schmuhl at St. Wenceslaus Church in Ripon. She Attended Brandon High School graduating in 1953.

Hazel and Don farmed in the Fairwater area before moving to Brandon, where they built two new homes together. After Don’s death in 1997, Hazel moved to her current home in Fond du Lac. Hazel was a homemaker and she also began working in 1962 as a telephone switchboard operator above the bank in Brandon. Years later, she was a housekeeper at Parkview Nursing Home, Ripon, and St. Francis Home, Fond du Lac.

Hazel was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Fond du Lac, and enjoyed going to Bingo and driving through Lakeside Park to view the lake and watch the wildlife.

Hazel is survived by three children, Steven (Gail) Schmuhl, Susan Stone, and Donald “Butch” (Mary) Schmuhl, all of Fond du Lac; grandchildren, Melanie Bailey of Colorado, Patrick (Rachel) Schmuhl of Wisconsin, Kristy (Richard) Schwindt of Oregon, Michael Stone of Wisconsin, Andrew Schmuhl of Virginia, and Ashley (Nicholas) Roche of Belgium; and great-grandchildren, Julian and Henry of Colorado, Isabella and Cameron of Wisconsin, Aria, Bennett, Willow, Derek, Fletcher, Laurel and Elden of Oregon, and Gabriel and Evelyn of Belgium. Hazel is further survived by a sister-in-law, Alice Uecker of Ripon along with many nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Ed (Shirley) Uecker, Marvin (Neoma) Uecker, and Allen Uecker.

A visitation will be held from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM, Thursday, July 16, 2026, at Uecker Witt Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow, beginning at 11:00 AM. A private family burial will take place in Brandon Cemetery, Brandon, WI.
