Herman W. Kempfer, 82, of Redgranite and formerly of Waupun, died Wednesday, June 11, 2025 at Ascension Mercy Hospital in Oshkosh surrounded by his loved ones. He was born March 23, 1943 in Waupun, the son of Carlton and Bernice (Hackbarth) Kempfer. After graduation, Herman served in the U.S. Army from 1961-1964. On February 6, 1965 he married Carolyn VanLoo in Waupun. Herman worked 43 years for Mercury Marine, retiring in 2008. He was a lifelong member of AMVETS Post 13 in Redgranite. He loved to hunt, fish, and enjoyed rides on the UTV.
He is survived by his wife, Carol; son, Michael Kempfer of Beaver Dam; his siblings, Judy (Ernie) McMichael, Carlene VanBeek, Carlton (Jayne) Kempfer, and Chris (Annette) Kempfer; his four legged friend, Zoey; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, July 12, 2025 from 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM at Lions Hall, 145 Dearborn Street in Redgranite. Cremation has taken place. Military honors will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday at the Lions Hall.
