Joan P. Schmitz

Joan P. Schmitz, age 88, passed away on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at Willow Park Place in New Holstein. Joan was born on September 2, 1934, in Fond du Lac, the daughter of Raymond and Olive (Braun) Stephanie. On April 23, 1955, Joan married Jerome Schmitz at St. Peter’s Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on March 11, 2010. Joan helped run the family farm for many years. She enjoyed polka dancing, gardening, puzzles, and playing sheepshead.

Survivors include her children, Ann Pickart, Ed Schmitz, John (Dee) Schmitz, Paul (Patricia) Schmitz, Julie (Lee) Hansen, Don (Sherri) Schmitz, Rick (Kathy) Schmitz; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Roman (Leann) Stephanie; in-laws, Elmer Schmitz, Gerald (Bernice) Schmitz, and Lillian Schmitz; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Joseph; son-in-law, Harvey Pickart; her siblings, Martin Stephanie, Herbert Stephanie, Agnes Freund, and Esther Freund; brothers-in-law, Clarence Schmitz, Louis Schmitz, and Orlando Schmitz.

Visitation will take place on Saturday, July 29, 2023, from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM at St. Peter Church-Holy Family, N8079 Church Rd, Malone, WI, 53049. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow the visitation at the church at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow the service across the street at St. Peter’s Cemetery.
