John C. Thornton

John C. Thornton, 48, of Van Dyne, passed away on Thursday, August 31, 2023. He was born on October 19, 1974, in Fond du Lac, the son of Richard and Jennifer (Woodruff) Thornton. John graduated from North Fond du Lac High School in 1993. On February 2, 2002, he married Janelle Atkinson in Fond du Lac. John worked for the Canadian National Railroad as a conductor for 26 years. Everyone who knew John, loved his genuineness when asking about their day, his infectious smile, and his sense of humor. He enjoyed traveling, scuba diving, fishing, and music.


He is survived by his wife, Janelle; two daughters, Natalie (dear friend, Jack Stettbacher) and Daphne Thornton; sister, Leann (Curtis) DeRemer; mother-in-law, Mary Meyer; father-in-law, Paul Atkinson; brother-in-law, Paul (Brooke) Atkinson; sister-in-law, Andrea Atkinson; good friends, Willie and Tony; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard “Thirsty” and Jennifer; grandparents, Clark and Alma Woodruff and John and Gwendolyn Thornton.


The visitation will be held on Thursday, September 7, 2023, from 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home. Cremation has taken place.
