Joseph FortunatoJoseph Fortunato, 85, of N 7869 Lakeshore Dr. in the Town of Friendship died Wednesday, August 11, 2004 at Hospice Home of Hope. Joseph was born August 7, 1919 in the Town of Friendship, a son of Charles and Catherine Arenz Fortunato. On June 21, 1947 he married Rosemary Keenan at St. Patrick's Church in Fond du Lac.Joseph was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving for "four years, four months, and eight days" in northern France, in the Ardennes and Rhineland. He was also active in the CCC when he was young. He was formerly employed by the Soo-Line Railroad before working for 26 years for Wisconsin Power and Light on the gas crew. He was a member of Presentation Parish in North Fond du Lac and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.Survivors include his wife; Rosemary of Fond du Lac, seven children; Joseph B. Fortunato of Mt. Calvary, Lenore (Mark) VandeBerg of Fond du Lac, Michael Fortunato of Sturgeon Bay, Dennis (Pat) Fortunato of Fond du Lac, Patrick (Diane) Fortunato of Marshall, WI, Kathleen (Dan) Razner of Fond du Lac, Gerald Fortunato of Reedsville, WI, 12 grandchildren; Stephany Fortunato, Scott and Todd VandeBerg, Chris and Jenny Fortunato, Jenny, Monica, and Michelle Jeschke, Tiffany Anderson, Kristen and Courtney Razner, Chad Naidl, one sister; Stella Taylor of Middleton, brothers and sisters-in-law; Kay Keenan, Jerome Keenan, John Wendels, Shirley Keenan, Elaine (Ray) Bauer, Pat (Bob) Hornes, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; Peter Fortunato, and one sister; Lucille Kruck.



Visitation for Joseph Fortunato will be held on Friday, August 13, 2004 from 4-8 P.M. at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 14, 2004 at 10:15 A.M. at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home and at 11:00 A.M. at Presentation Catholic Church in North Fond du Lac with the Rev. John Simon officiating. Entombment will follow at Chapel of the Risen Christ Mausoleum.The family appreciated the compassionate care they gave Joseph at the Hospice Home of Hope. Memorials in his name may be directed to Hospice Home of Hope.Uecker-Witt Funeral Home is serving the family.
