Leila A. Zabel

Leila A. Zabel, age 87, departed her earthly home to join her Heavenly Father on Monday, June 14, 2004 at the Fond du Lac Lutheran Home where she was a resident for the last year. She was born on February 17, 1917 in Kaukauna the daughter of Arthur Meinert and Edith Borchardt. August Carnot was her loving stepfather. On June 9, 1937 she married Marvin W. Zabel in Kaukauna. They lived in many communities throughout Wisconsin: Bloomington, Lancaster, Zachow, Fond du Lac, Green Bay, and Monroe. Her husband Marvin W. Zabel preceded her in death on February 23, 1972. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Monroe, and Lydia Circle. Leila was a faith filled Christian mother who loved and cared for her family. SURVIVORS: three children, her daughter, Joanne (Robert) Gauger of Monroe, her son Ron (Pat) Zabel of Madison, and her son James Zabel of San Francisco, eight grandchildren, the Reverend Timothy (Linda) Gauger, Susan (Dan) Digman, Thomas (Cathy) Gauger, Shelly (Joe) Mrozinski, Karen (Luca) Orazietti, Jennifer (Ed) James, and Doug and Jim Zabel, nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her stepfather, her half brother, Howard Carnot, and one granddaughter, Mary Ellen Gauger.



VISITATION: Wednesday, June 16, 2004 from 2:30 until 3:30 P.M. at the Fond du Lac Lutheran Home Chapel. FUNERAL: Wednesday, June 16, 2004 at 3:30 P.M. at the Fond du Lac Lutheran Home Chapel with the Reverend Dean Desilet officiating. Burial will follow at Estabrooks Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established for the Fond du Lac Lutheran Home. Uecker-Witt Funeral Home is serving the family.
