Leola G. "Lee" Schilling

Leola Gene “Lee” Schilling passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2024, at St. Agnes Hospital, Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. She was born on January 18, 1946, in Manitowoc, the youngest of eleven children of Wilbur and Isabelle (Folletz) Maertz. On May 16, 1969, she married Edward L. Schilling at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Manitowoc. Lee graduated from Lincoln High School, Manitowoc, in 1964 and later from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1973.

 

Lee was a proud and dedicated “stay at home” mom while her children were young. She was a skilled artist in several mediums and an avid gardener. She completed Master Gardener courses three times. She was a lover of nature and a dedicated bird and critter feeder. Her personal “Heaven on Earth” was when she worked in her yard and gardens. 

 

Lee worked several jobs over the years, including the Fond du Lac Clinic, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), the Fond du Lac Housing Authority, the Fond du Lac County Conflict Resolution Center, and Haentze’s Floral.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; and nine siblings. She is survived by her husband, Edward; sister, Ruth Wood of Abrams; two children, Dana (Phillip) of Fond du Lac and Nathan of Menasha; four grandchildren, Lucelia “Lucy” Schilling, Kelvin Schilling, Hendrix Hietpas all of Menasha, and Braxton Schneider of Fond du Lac. 

 

It was Lee’s wishes that there be no viewing or funeral. Cremation has taken place.
