Marjorie Strong

Marjorie (Wightman) Strong, also known to her friends as Marge or Margie, born April 27, 1940, to Norman and Louise Wightman, was welcomed into her Savior’s arms after a life rooted in faith, family, and friendship. She graduated from Winnebago Lutheran Academy in 1958 and married the love of her life, Stephen G. Strong, on June 10, 1961, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. Together they created a life together that was full of love and caring for family and the people around them.

Family was Marge’s deepest love and passion. She was a proud and loving mother to her four children: Mark Strong, Tammie (Richard) Taylor, Scott (Sarah) Strong, and Carrie Strong.

She was blessed with eight grandchildren: Jennifer Taylor, Amanda Taylor; Stephen (Emma) Strong, Brett (Anna) Strong, Jered (Ashley) Strong, Jordan (Aleah) Strong; Emma (Jeremy) Hartung, and Owen Strong.

Her joy multiplied with ten great‑grandchildren: Stefan and Sofia Jimenez; Amika, Isley, and Levy Strong; Journey, Nevaeh, Malachi, and Eden Strong; Brinley Strong — with two more great‑grandchildren on the way. She also held a special great-grandmotherly place in the lives of Serena, Allana, and Giovanni.

Marge also embraced four step‑grandchildren, eleven step‑great‑grandchildren, and two step‑great‑great‑grandchildren, loving each one as part of her ever‑growing family.

She is also survived by her brother Tom (Sharon) Wightman, friend Bob Filda, and many aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who cherished her deeply.

Family, faith and church were the heart of Marge’s life. She was an active member of Hope Lutheran Church, serving faithfully through Bible class, Women on Their Own, the shut‑in ministry, book club, Café Corner, and the church guild. Her dedication to her church community was a reflection of her steadfast faith and generous and kind spirit.

Marge also treasured her many circles of friends: the Wednesday Night Girls, the Planet Fitness Girls, her classmates who continued gathering over the years, and the Saturday Morning Girls. Each group brought her laughter, companionship, many meals and memories she held close.

Marge continued her love of socializing with her friends and family during her time in hospice. She had many visitors who shared stories and expressed the deep and lasting impact Marge had on each of them. Marge cultivated family wherever she went. She was a friend, confidant, mentor and surrogate mother and grandmother to so many who knew her. Marge was a kind soul.

Marge was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Stephen Strong; son‑in‑law John Vercauteren; sisters Mary Becker and Marcia Wightman; brother Norm Wightman; sister‑in‑law Marlene Wightman; brother-in-law and sister‑in‑law Gene and Jackie Greve; and sister‑in‑law Phyllis Strong.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 1, 2026, at Hope Lutheran Church, 260 Vincent Street in Fond du Lac. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM with burial in Rienzi Cemetery to follow.
