Our Family sadly announces the passing of our mother, Mary Louise Wagner, on Friday, February 6, 2026. She was born on May 28, 1932, to John and Elizabeth (Benedict) Fox. Mary was the youngest of 14 children. She married David Lawrence Wagner on November 10th, 1951. They celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2001 with a party at the Eagles Club where. Mom wore her original wedding dress (no alterations) to surprise dad.
Mary was a kind, gentle woman with a radiant smile, keeping the ship afloat with 5 children of her own. She was a devoted Christian and follower of the Catholic faith, persevering through a few hard times in life. The loss of son Robert (age 31) was the hardest for both mom and dad.
Mary attended St. Michaels grade school to Grade 8 then finished her education at St. Mary’s Springs Academy, graduating in 1950. She worked as a waitress at the Retlaw Hotel and later at The Reporter manually stuffing sales flyers in the newspaper. She also volunteered at the Adult Day Care Center and St. Agnes Hospital with brother Elmer and sister Bernice.
Mary was an avid Packer and Brewer fan with Paul Hornung and Christian Yelich her favorite players. She also loved bowling and traveling with sister-in-law Laura later in life.
Mary is survived by children, Michael (Pam) Wagner, Kathleen Wagner, Kenneth (Cindy) Wagner, and Maureen (Steve) Schuchardt; grandchildren, Michael Wagner Jr., Matthew (Melissa) Wagner, and Brian (Julie) Wagner, Natalie Merwin and Mitchell (Lisa) Merwin, Laura (Matt) Barnes, Kenneth Wagner and Justin (Kendra) Wagner, and Jerry (Kirsten) Schuchardt. She is further survived by great-grandchildren, Lindsey Wagner and Austin Wagner, Jack Wagner, Benjamin Wagner, Abby Wagner, Micah Merwin, Hudson Merwin, Fletcher Merwin, and Maleah Merwin, Jayden Barnes and Kyle Barnes, Brett Wagner, Hunter Wagner, Penelope and Eli Robert Wagner (due in March), and Morgan Schuchardt; and great great-grandchildren, Jaspir Wagner and Freyja Hamilton.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents John and Elizabeth (Benedict) Fox; husband, David; and a son, Robert Wagner; siblings and spouses, William (Helen) Fox, Frances (Paul) Gremminger, Lawrence (Catherine) Fox, Sylvester (Mercedes, Ellen) Fox, Genevieve (Frank) Junaitas, Viola (Lester) Bohlman, John “Jack” (Laura) Fox, Jerome (Dorothy) Fox, Virginia (Warren) Hess, Bernice (Don) Evenson, and Elmer (Ruth) Fox; her in-laws, Michael
(Catherine) Wagner; David’s siblings and spouses, Francis (Violet) Wagner, Helen Janis, Bernice (Arden) Storke, Irene (Charles) Thomas, Ruth (Leonard) Buell, Robert (Charlotte) Wagner, Catherine (Richard) Batchhelder, Delores (Robert) Wester, and Blanche (Wayne) Rahl.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Sacred Heart Church, Fond du Lac Humane Society or a charity of your choice in Mary’s Name.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM, Saturday, February 21, 2026, at Holy Family Church, 271 Fourth Street Way in Fond du Lac. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, beginning at 11:00 AM with entombment in Chapel of the Risen Christ Mausoleum, Calvary Cemetery following the service.
The family would like to especially thank Bob and Michelle Fox for their kindness in transporting Mom to Sunday church for many years, for taking time to visit her at her home, and at The Manor at the Meadows. Thank you also to Barb King for bringing communion to the home when physical challenges would not allow Mary to attend church any longer. We
would also like to thank all the caregivers and staff at The Manor at the Meadows and the Moments Hospice Team that cared for mom during her final days.
