Robert John Hilt, 87, of Fond du Lac, died peacefully at Eden Vista Memory Home in Fond du Lac on Saturday, July 4, 2026, after a long battle with Parkinson’s and Dementia. He was born on May 29, 1939, in Fond du Lac County, the son of Gregory and Walburga (Fritz) Hilt. On April 18, 1964, he married the love of his life, Bonnie Brester, at St. Mary’s Church in Fond du Lac. Robert and Bonnie have celebrated 62 years of marriage together. Bob graduated from Goodrich High School in 1958. He worked at Mercury Marine for 43 years until his retirement in 2002.
Bob’s time was filled with volunteering for Broken Bread, Holy Family, and at the Youth Baseball Park. He enjoyed playing cards, darts, and riding his bike around town. Bob’s biggest enjoyment were his children and grandchildren. You could always find him at all the grandkids' activities cheering them on. Bob’s kindness, generosity, and love for his family will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.
Bob is survived by his wife, Bonnie; three children, Christine (Matt) Stellmacher of West Bend, Michael Hilt of Appleton, and Melisa (Jon) Boehlke of Oshkosh; three grandchildren, Mackenzie, Parker, and I’terion Boehlke; sister, Barbara O’Brien; sister-in-law, Elaine Lichtenwald; brother-in-law, Daniel Groeschel; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gregory and Walburga; infant son; father and mother-in-law, Carl and Marcella Brester; two brothers, Gregory Jr. and John Hilt; four sisters-in-law; Gloria Groeschel, Lois Gaboury, Claire Hilt, and Martha Brester; and three brothers-in-law, Alex Lichtenwald, Thomas O’Brien, and Carl Brester.
The visitation will be held on Friday, July 10, 2026, from 1:30 PM – 3:00 PM at Shrine of Rest Mausoleum, Ledgeview Memorial Park, N6250 County Road K, Fond du Lac, WI. The funeral service will follow the visitation at 3:00 PM. Private family entombment to follow the service.
The family would like to extend a thank you to the staff at Eden Vista, Preceptor Hospice caregivers, Preceptor Hospice Chaplin Kelly, and musician Anne for the loving care given to Bob.
